Thanks for FNB Home loans and Shared Services Volunteers, a new home for 20 of the 50 girls has been donated. However, the remaining girls are still living in dire conditions. We are desperate to purchase decent accommodation for these girls.
Mam Khanyi's plight to restore human dignity in the face of many challenges has been praised by other women and highlighted in this prestigious South African event.
Nedbank Hero of the Month
Mam’ Khanyi was nominated as the Nedbank Hero of the Month in November 2009 for Community Building. Her ten thousand rand prize money went straight back into her Home of Hope shelter in Hillbrow.
Shoprite-Checkers Woman of the Year- Youth movers 2010
The Shoprite Checkers Women of the Year Award rewarded exceptional and visionary women who have achieved in their own fields with the determination and foresight to make an impact on the future of many fellow South Africans.
This award focuses the attention of the people of our country on finding solutions for those critical matters affecting our future. The winners are awarded with individual prize money and also given R100 000 towards the work they do for a better future.
Furthermore, the Shoprite Checkers Women of the Year Award honours an esteemed South African whom during her or his lifetime who has inspired generations. Mam Khanyi was voted by the public as the winner in the Youth Movers category.
The Rotary Clubs of Rosebank and Randburg awarded Mam Khanyi for Community Building, 2010.
